It's THE hair trend on TikTok right now: using rosemary to fight hair loss and promote hair growth.
This aromatic plant is already known for its detox and anti-stress benefits, but is it really effective at preventing hair loss? LAO decided to investigate for you, and as a bonus, discover some tips for strengthening your hair and limiting hair loss at the end of the article!
Why do we lose our hair?
It's important to know that everyone loses hair every day. Hair has a 3-phase renewal cycle: the first phase is the anagen phase, during which the hair actively grows. The next phase is the catagen phase.
During this phase, which lasts about 3 weeks, the hair stops growing. Finally, comes the third and final phase, called the telogen phase, during which the hair will fall out. We all lose about 50 to 100 hairs every day, and that's normal!
However, some people do suffer from abnormal hair loss which can be very distressing and affect their quality of life.
This hair loss can be due to several factors. One of the most common is alopecia, which is a sudden and temporary hair loss. Alopecia can be linked to hormonal fluctuations, illness, unsuitable cosmetic products, stress, or even childbirth. So, could rosemary help reduce this hair loss?
Does rosemary help with hair loss?
AnNCBI study of 100 people comparing the effects of rosemary to minoxidil, which is widely known for its hair regrowth properties, found that rosemary didn't have much effect in the short term, but after six months, researchers noticed a real improvement and an increase in hair growth.
What we can learn from this study is that using rosemary for a long time can significantly promote hair growth and therefore renewal. Studies have not yet shown that the plant can reduce hair loss!

When shampooing or treating your hair, choose products that are gentle on your hair. Indeed, some cosmetic products, particularly those containing sulfates, which are cleansing and foaming agents, have a stripping effect on the scalp, weakening it. However, this is the cause of hair growth and hair loss, hence the importance of taking care of it.
LAO shampoos have also been formulated to be very gentle on the hair and scalp, as they contain no sulfates and are made from 100% natural ingredients, selected to soothe the scalp.
With gentle cleansing treatments, many people have already reported a real improvement in the condition of their hair and scalp!
After treating the outside, it's also possible to treat the inside. If your hair is falling out a lot, it may be because you have deficiencies! To find out, the best thing to do is to consult a doctor who can prescribe a blood test to clearly identify your deficiencies.
To prevent deficiencies that can cause hair loss, it's recommended to eat healthily and include foods rich in iron and vitamins in your meals. Depending on your deficiencies, you can also take a course of dietary supplements to complement a healthy and varied diet!
Hair loss is sometimes linked to stress or anxiety. It's not irreversible, but it's important for you to identify the stressors in your life and find solutions to relieve your anxiety.
Practicing activities like yoga, meditation, or even exercise in general can help you reduce your stress. You'll feel better about yourself, and you'll likely see changes in your hair, too!
Finally, to stimulate hair growth, there's nothing better than a scalp massage! Massaging your scalp will improve blood circulation in your scalp and therefore stimulate hair growth.
It's a simple gesture that you can easily integrate into your daily routine in the shower, simply when you shampoo!
