Beyond a shampoo

Much more than a natural shampoo, LAO wants to become the symbol of more responsible, local cosmetics.

The conventional and also natural cosmetics sector is severely lacking in transparency toward consumers, who face greenwashing every day.

Eager to launch the movement toward more ethical cosmetics, LAO decided to examine its entire value chain to learn the origin, quality and effectiveness of every element in our 100% natural-origin shampoos and to select the best ingredients for you and for the planet.

From the very beginning, we’ve shared every step of building our brand with you, from finding the lab and the ingredients to choosing the bottle. These are two natural shampoos formulated with you and for you! We based them on the answers to our many questionnaires to create the perfect shampoo that meets everyone’s needs!

• French shampoos

Beyond French manufacturing (in the Pays de la Loire), we worked across the entire value chain so that as many ingredients as possible come from France. In our two 100% natural shampoos, you’ll find organic hemp from Alsace, and lemon balm and nettle from the southwest, both organic. What’s more, the formula was created in France, in La Rochelle! And our active ingredients aren’t the only ones sourced from France! Feel free to check our product pages for the details of each country of origin.

We’ve chosen to work directly with our local producers to ensure they are better paid, and with two French ESATs (sheltered employment establishments and services) to promote the professional integration of people with disabilities.

• 100% natural origin

It was important to us to choose ingredients of natural origin for your health and to limit water pollution after use, because yes, your shampoo partly ends up in the sea. So 100% of the ingredients in our two shampoos are of natural origin. And to guarantee it, we’ve been certified Cosmos Natural by Ecocert. We are also members of the Cosmebio association.

• Not tested on animals

In line with the law, and with our values, our shampoos are, of course, not tested on animals.

• A first-of-its-kind deposit system with an aluminum bottle

After carrying out a market study and understanding the components and manufacturing process of solid shampoos (not all that eco-friendly in the end), we chose to create a liquid natural shampoo in line with our values.

But since we’re also hunting down plastic, we chose an aluminum bottle. Aluminum is a lightweight metal that protects the formula from UV rays and is perfectly recyclable, and recycled at over 97% in France (according to Citeo). Its lightness lets us offer our future distributors, hairdressers and organic stores, the option of sending the bottles back to us so we can refill them: that’s our deposit system!

So all you’ll need to do is bring your bottle, with its pump (which we’ll try to recycle), back to your local retailer that stocks us. You’ll find the list on our website starting in February.

We will collect the bottles, which will be washed and refilled or recycled.

• An effective natural shampoo with a generous lather

No way were we going to make an ineffective natural shampoo. We selected the best ingredients in generous amounts to address the issues of every hair type. The result: two shampoos with fewer than 15 ingredients each, and nothing superfluous!

What’s more, they really lather thanks to their blend of 3 cleansing agents of natural origin: no compromise between pleasure, health and respect for the environment!

• A shampoo for everyone

At LAO, we believe that having beautiful, natural hair isn’t reserved for women. And yes, gentlemen, you also need natural hair care suited to your hair type. As a reminder, the pH of soap isn’t suited to hair! Learn more about the pH of cosmetics here.

So we created unisex natural shampoos! They’re also free from controversial ingredients (sulfates, silicones, quaterniums) and essential oils, so they suit people with a sensitive scalp too.
