5 mistakes to stop making with your hair

By observing your hair routines, we realized that many of you still make numerous mistakes that can unfortunately affect the condition and also the growth of your hair (be careful, we don't throw stones at anyone!).

In this article, we share with you the 5 most common mistakes and how to adapt your routine accordingly.

1/Washing your hair too often or not often enough

Many of you know that it's not a good idea to wash your hair too often because it stimulates the sebaceous glands. Washing your hair too often will stress your scalp and will respond by producing more sebum.

But did you know that not washing your hair often enough is just as problematic as washing it too often? In fact, if you don't wash your hair often enough, your scalp can suffocate. which can cause more hair loss.

Beyond the fact that your hair may become greasy more quickly or fall out more quickly, washing it too often can also affect your scalp by causing irritation.

The ideal is to have a balanced amount of sebum secreted. It's up to you to decide how many shampoos you want to do per week.

We recommend shampooing your hair 1 to 3 times a week, depending on your hair type. Oily hair will need to be washed more often than dry hair.

2/ Using hair care that is too aggressive

We've already talked about it in several of our articles , but a reminder is in order! A good hair routine starts with choosing a natural shampoo that's suited to your hair type and also to the hair problems you're experiencing.

Using a shampoo that is not suitable for your scalp can cause and exacerbate hair problems such as brittle and split ends , oily roots or even an itchy scalp.

The ideal is to choose a gentle shampoo, with a pH as close as possible to 3.67 , but also a shampoo with a pH lower than 5.5. Above 5.5, shampoo can damage the hair to the point of creating scalp irritation. Shampoos with a pH higher than 8.5 can be stripping for the scalp. This is why we recommend not washing your hair with soap (isn't that right, gentlemen?); because the pH of soap is very basic (around 9).

That's why we've done everything we can to ensure the pH of LAO shampoos ranges between 3.67 and 5.5. In this production, the pH of the nourishing shampoo with organic hemp is 4.93 compared to 5.18 for the purifying shampoo with organic nettle.

3/ Use heat-emitting devices

A few weeks ago, we explained how heat affects your hair and why it's so bad for it. In that article, we highlighted the fact that when hair is exposed to heat, its scales open, and the keratin is more exposed to external aggressions. Depending on the intensity, the heat itself damages the scales and keratin.

Heat-emitting appliances such as straighteners, curling irons, or hair dryers damage the hair structure and dry it out. The hair scales will open, and the hair will be less protected, less soft, less shiny, and will eventually break. Excess heat can also have a harmful effect on the scalp. Therefore, we advise against their use and, if possible, to stop using them altogether.

There are several solutions available to you for drying your hair without heat, you will find them in this article: how to dry your hair gently and without heat.

4/ Brush your wet hair

Many of you want to brush your hair after your shower, yet this is also one of the top 5 most common mistakes. It is not recommended to brush your hair when it is wet because wet hair is much more fragile and therefore more prone to breakage after you get out of the shower.

For gentle detangling, we recommend using, for example , a special boar bristle brush or a wooden comb.

Also, there is no point in rubbing your hair together with a towel; instead, gently pat it dry.

When it comes to brushing your hair, remember that it's best to brush it from the bottom up: start by brushing the ends and then gradually work your way up to the roots to avoid putting too much pressure on the hair.

We also take this opportunity to remind you to wash your brush or comb thoroughly to avoid accumulating dirt and dust, which could make your hair dirty more quickly.

5) Rinse your hair with warm water

Finally, as a final mistake, we wanted to talk to you about rinsing your hair with water that's too hot. Indeed, water temperature has an impact on the health and beauty of your hair!

Rinsing with water that is too hot risks removing the hydrolipidic film present on the scalp, which acts as a protective barrier. Your hair will therefore change appearance and will seem less shiny or even more oily. Ideally, you should rinse your hair with lukewarm water, but if you're brave and courageous, you can run a jet of cold water over it at the end of your shower to tighten the cuticles of your hair: this will make it shinier!

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind you that it is essential to rinse your hair well: take the time to rinse each section of your hair: at the end of your shampoo, your hair should squeak to the touch.
