4 Signs You Need to Change Your Shampoo

Among the hair problems most noted by our team when talking with you, we find hair that tends to be oily , the appearance of dandruff, damaged lengths, lack of shine and volume.

Did you know that going natural can help you reduce these hair problems?

In this new article, LAO gives you four signs that prove you need to change your shampoo!

Your hair gets greasy too quickly

You should know that sebum is good for your hair! It keeps your hair hydrated and protects it from external aggressions. The hydrolipidic film produced by sebum and present on your scalp gives your hair a soft and shiny appearance. Without sebum, your hair becomes fragile.

Overproduction of sebum can be caused by external factors such as pollution, overexposure to the sun, and the use of hair dryers. Stress, certain medications, and endocrine disorders also alter sebum production.

The first instinct we have when we have oily hair is to wash it too often. However, this risks further damaging your hair. To protect it, your sebaceous glands will produce even more sebum. As a result, your hair will become even more oily!

Solutions:
  • To regulate sebum, we recommend spacing out your shampoos. Wash your hair no more than twice a week.
  • Rinse your hair with cold water and avoid blow-drying because heat dries out your hair. Instead, opt for cool air drying and air drying.

Your lengths are dry

Dry hair means a lack of moisture. Dry hair can be caused by insufficient sebum production, but also by other factors such as blow-drying, coloring, and bleaching that damage your hair.

Consequences: your hair is dull, breaks more quickly and lacks shine.

Solutions:

If you have both oily hair and dry lengths, we recommend alternating the Hemp Nourishing Cleanser with the Nettle Purifying Conditioner. They are very beneficial for hair that suffers from both excess sebum on the scalp and a lack of sebum on the ends. Our natural cleansing treatments soothe your scalp and moisturize your lengths.

Lack of shine

One of the consequences of dry hair is a lack of shine.

Solutions:

  • Choose foods rich in vitamins, zinc, iron, and fatty acids. Learn more here .
  • Avoid conventional shampoos with silicones which give a false shine and softness effect .
  • Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar or white vinegar . Vinegar tightens the micro-scales of your hair and gives it shine and suppleness.

Sensitive scalp

Many shampoos are harsh on your hair. For example, many shampoos contain sulfates . Their role is to cleanse and lather.

However, sulfates are irritating ingredients for the scalp. They tend to strip the surface of the epidermis by removing part of the hydrolipidic film that covers it.

Consequences: your scalp becomes sensitive, dehydrated, dried out and may be prone to itching and the appearance of dandruff.

Solutions:

  • Avoid shampoos that contain too many stripping surfactants like sulfates
  • Choose gentle shampoos that have a limited number of ingredients.
